Undoubtedly the best dog trainer I’ve ever worked with. While my friends’ dogs are still jumping on strangers and barking incessantly, my pup is well behaved and learning more all the time. Mara is a wonderful trainer and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see her on TV in the future teaching a wider audience how to have a better relationship with their dog 🐶

complete 3 weeks of training
For 3 weeks, your trainer will travel to your home Monday through Friday to work with your dog in their own environment and neighborhood.
Monday through Thursday each week consists of a 60 minute solo training session and a daily video update. This minimizes distractions for both dog and trainer so learning can efficiently take place. You do not need to be home.
Friday each week is a private family coaching session. Your trainer will explain what and how your dog learns, demonstrate their new skills, and coach each family member through the same exercises.

lion, bear & elk trainer
Mara is one of the highest rated dog trainers in the state. Her immersive training journey began with sport and therapy horse training in 2008. After several years of training horses for use in children's hippotherapy as well as competing in jumpers, hunter-jumpers and equitation, she went on to live on site with gold level trainers across the US, including 4**** (Olympic level) Eventing trainers and 4**** Parelli Natural Horsemanship Instructors. She competed with her off-the-track Thoroughbred racehorse "Prissy" in Preliminary Eventing and was on winning IHSA dressage and event teams.
Mara's experience with horses landed her a zoo keeping job in 2016 keeping elk. She also cared for and trained mountain lions, bears, river otters, bald eagles and opossums at a wildlife sanctuary in North Carolina. The animals learned practical skills for exams and medical procedures such as voluntarily accepting vaccinations and getting on a weigh scale as well as an array of crowd pleasing tricks.
Mara "accidentally" adopted a difficult Husky in 2017 and immediately fell in love with behavior modification for abandoned dogs and dogs who were to be euthanized for their behavior. She transitioned fully to dog training and moved to Colorado in July 2020, where holds a 5-star Google and Thumbtack rating for training.
Now loving the Austin life, Mara is Traction's go-to for behavior cases and advanced obedience training because of her love for "spicy" canine personalities and skill for solving unique training problems.
When not training professionally, Mara can be found training her Doberman Venom for competitive personal protection work in PSA and APPDA.

Tina Chavez brings together decades of high level experience in both teaching people and training dogs. Throughout her years of professionally coaching and advising new business owners, she simultaneously practiced her personal passion - training dogs. Her first training project was a Miniature Pinscher Lily, adopted in 2006.
Lily inspired Tina's first working dog, a Doberman named Vida. Vida set Tina on a path of transitioning fully towards dog training as she excelled in a mentorship under a local trainer and quickly moved on to mentoring under his coaches as her knowledge grew. Under her master coach, a nationally recognized sport dog trainer in Colorado, Tina successfully completed Vida's AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title, the DPCA Working Aptitude Evaluation (WAE), the Working Aptitude Completion (WAC) title test, as well as her own certification in K9 First Aid and CPR.
In 2021, Tina graduated in the top 10% of the world renowned Ne Po Po Silver School and will return for Gold School in 2022 to study further under Bart Bellon, inventor of many modern dog training methods.
Tina is Traction's in-house puppy expert because she excels in "human training" as well as dog and puppy training. Tina has dedicated herserlf to in-depth studies of puppy development to help you understand your dog's cognitive and physical processes.
When not training professionally, you'll find Tina preparing her Doberman Vida for her PSA1 title, advanced AKC scent work titles, and laying training and protection foundations for her Doberman puppy Vengeance.
special ops & swat k9 trainer
Will brings the perfect balance between a gentle personality and a firm approach after 10 years of police and military K9 training from Africa to Iraq. His professional dog training journey began in 2012 when he left SEAL training to become a Military Working Dog Handler, receiving MWD (Military Working Dog) certification in obedience, patrol, and narcotics and explosives detection. He was awarded "Top Dog" of his MWD class and advanced to graduate from an intensive Marine Corps K9 training course that focused on long range off leash work and K9 first aid.
Will conquered various complex behavior issues among the Shepherds and Malinois he trained to aid in various military operations. He developed a passion and unique skill set for working with anxious and aggressive dogs. His experience fostering as well as stopping aggression in dogs gives him a thorough understanding of the behavior and its motives.
Will was hand selected as one of the first of military police to attend and complete SWAT training in 2014 and worked as Special Operations/SWAT Team for two years. In 2015 he conducted joint trainings with the Naval Explosive Ordinance Disposal, Homeland Security, ATF, FBI, NCIS, and NPD. In 2018, Will transitioned away from the military into training dogs for the state department in North Carolina.
Will now enjoys passing his knowledge on to families and their pets, and has trained dogs from Yorkies to Belgian Malinois. He is enjoying family life with his wife, his 5-month-old daughter, and their two dogs Lucy and Lola. When not helping Texas families build better relationships with their pooches, you can find Will taking flying lessons or spending time with his family.
Tina recently helped my fiancé and I with our new puppy. I am over the moon happy with the results. We both learned so much about puppyhood. The teething, potty training, crate training, obedience, manners and many other things I’m forgetting can be overwhelming. Tina makes it all okay. She explains it all and walks you through everything step by step. I love that she is a nepopo graduate! I am a behavioral psychologist and learned a little about Bart Bellon’s accomplishments in canine training & behavior. The fact she studied under him went a long way in narrowing our choice to Traction Dog Training. Tina did far more than I thought possible with our baby. Oh and she still checks in on our Pongo. How cool is that!
Will C. worked miracles with my rescued pit bull Rocky! My wife and I had been looking for a rescue for a while and were reluctant to do so in our smaller apartment complex. Within 6 weeks of working with Will C., we were able to host a gathering with our neighbors. Rocky is now the apartment complexes favorite dog.
